Grout McTavish Architects Inc in collaboration with Nick Milkovich Architects and Arthur Erickson were commissioned jointly by the BC Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Secretariat (Ministry of Economic Development) and Accommodation and Real Estate Services (Ministry of Labour and Citizen’s Services) to develop masterplan concepts for the revitalization of the lower plaza level at Robson Square and the creation of a legacy setting for 2010 related activities in Block 51/61 of Robson Square.

The major focus of the Ice Rink Plaza revitalization is the expansion of the existing ice rink (and supporting refrigeration plant) and the introduction of new and fresh ceiling and paving finishes, lighting and a year round café kiosk. To facilitate better physical and visual connections to Robson Street, the dark glass domes have been removed and the existing landscape balustrades reworked to provide greater visibility into the plaza below.
