Terry Fox Plaza, BC Place Stadium

posted in: Public Art Management | 0

The client, the City and the Fox family were committed to replacing the existing memorial to Terry as part of the revitalization of BC Place. Working in collaboration with artist Douglas Coupland, Grout McTavish Architects designed a very simple, yet inviting, plaza as a setting for the inventive sculptures of Terry, which also serves as a high traffic entry/exit for the stadium. The plaza is on axis with Robson Street and in the shadow of the very imposing structure of the stadium. The placement of the artwork and the simplicity of the design give a strong sense of place to what has now become a significant City open space and photo opportunity.
